Does anyone know how to uninstall the PWE client?

Would be nice to know in the event you needed to remove it from a system. Note it does not show up in Add\Remove.

Requested this from Macola Tech Support about 3 years ago.

TIA

Assuming you are on MS SQL, this shows up as Progression SQL client 32 under add/remove programs.

Don,
????? What, since when?

It doesn't and hasn't ever showed up on any of our workstations. We use MS SQL 2000 SP4 and Windows 2000, Windows 2003 and XP for our OS's. There is no entries for Macola, Exact or Progression in any of our systems add remove programs.

If this is the case may I ask where the uninstall.exe might be located?

We just updated from 7.6.300 to 7.6.400 a couple weeks back, perhaps this is another BUG they need to create a FIX for?

Curious. I just sampled 5 of our workstations and the only Progression item showing up is the Progression flex client. Progression itself is not listed.

I do recall though that on previous version they were both in there.

MMMMMMMMMM

Seems to be that is part of software programming 101, write install routine and write uninstall routine.

It would be very helpful if Progression Tech Support could publish a tech doc on their web site on how to remove it manually, eg. registry entries to remove, folder directories to remove. etc. (including Fujitisu component)
or even better provide a script or batch file.

Welcome to the wonderful world of Macola!!!!!!

I've been administrating Macola here for 6 years. I have never seen a piece of software with so many problems. I email in things I see broken to tech support and the problems never seem to get fixed. The request to create and uninstall applet was submitted over 3 years ago. What does Macola do with all this maintenance money we pay them each year? How are you suppose to meet Regulatory Compliance with an ERP package that has so many problems.
Do they not have any programmers or programming staff? Or did the one they had quit and leave with all the source code and documentation? It seems to me they could and should hire some advanced programmers and get these problems fixed. Every update we install fixes some things and then you see old problems start to happen again.

For the cost of the product and the time it has been out it sure seems it should run alot smoother and the kinks should be getting worked out by now.

I have advised in the past not to uninstall a macola client. This applies more in a pervasive enviroment, then an SQL enviroment, but at one point in time if you uninstalled the client on the PC that you installed the application to the network with, you were actually uninstalling the entire application from the network.
I haven't had a need to uninstall before.

When the Macola Client installs it load the Macola Common files, Creates the necessary shortcut to the server, Crystal componenets and other parts needed are registered. Both PWE and Macola32 are resident on the server, only short cuts are installed. If you don't want them to have access to PWE, delete the short cut and rename the PWE.exe on the server.

The comment on NOT using the Macola Uninstall is correct, unless you pull the network cable prior to running the unintal. Nothing good has ever come from running that.

The comments about uninstalling the Macola client are correct. That functionality was removed to prevent users from unintentionally uninstalling the server portion of the client/server app. It happened enough that something had to be done. There were probably more graceful ways to prevent the uninstall from happening, but it was the decision made at the time. Since only the Pervasive version was installed from the client, it seems possible they could add the uninstall to the SQL install routine, and ship out separate cds, but problems can happen in the cd pressing facility that are far beyond Exact's control (anybody remember the Cambodian rock band?)

As for the files on the workstation, I know for a fact that when I was in support, we did have such a document. It was always a version out of revision, but served to get the job done.

Some files I remember off the top of my head:
c:\program files\common files\macola shared
c:\program files\common files\fujitsu (maybe fujitsucobol?)
c:\windows\system32\pwereg.txt
hklm\software\macola
hkcu\software\macola

Sorry that I can't remember more...also, remember that however bad Macola may seem, there are worse. I found one. Most error messages simply state 'A Message' and their support actually encouraged me to change the primary key on a table to get around a problem.
