Not sure if this is the correct forum to post this to - if not I apologise
in advance!

I have recently installed Yahoo Messenger (my first mistake) and now I want
to remove it. Yahoo Messenger has created two entries in the list of
possible uninstallations in Control Panel (Win98) - "Yahoo Messenger" and
"Yahoo Messenger Explorer Bar". Yahoo Messenger uninstall with no problems
but I cannot uninstall the Explorer Bar. I select the item, click the
Add/Remove button and nothing happens (no error messages, no nothing).

I have tried using the Start Menu option to uninstall. I get the same thing
(software appears to be uninstalled but the one option remains in Control
Panel list).

I have tried uninstalling the different components in different orders. No
joy there either.

Anybody got any suggestions? Any help *much* appreciated.

Welcome to the world of Windows!

Basically the uninstall routine has left some parts behind.

If you wish to persue the matter you would need to edit the registry and manually remove the entries yourself. I wouldn't attempt it unless you know a little about the Registry and have made a backup before you start.

Alternatively you could live with it, it won't affect the performance of the machine.

Geraldine,

Many thanks for your reply.

Can anybody recommend any decent (preferably free) registry cleaning software? I already have System Mechanic but this isn't finding the incorrect Yahoo registry entries.

Ed,

To rid the IE bar,

backup the registry and/or export the following keys:
go to Start>Run, type regedit. Navigate to:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Extensions

and delete the long CLSID containing the Yahoo info.
