Uniform Dial Plan - not sure whats going on

Hi all -

Thanks for reading my post. I'm having a problem and our phone guru left to work for another company. I'm learning more as I go but I'm stuck. The previous guy created this stuff but we're having trouble. The problem is you cannot get more than one connection when we have incoming calls from this outside number.

I was able to get some response from him and he suggested I use a hunt group instead.

However, if I were to do that, how would I use the "insert digits" to point to the T1 that was setup for it to use? I remember him showing me that it was needed to direct the incoming calls where they belonged

This is where my expereince & understanding ends for the most part. Any help or guidance would help me a ton.

Need a little more detail:

How many switches involved?
How are they connected together (IP, DS-1, Tie)?
Do all of your incoming trunks go into one switch?
What versions of software are involved?
What type of PBXs are you dealing with?

Hi Kevin -

I can try and answer as best I can, as I don't fully understand the config yet.

They are connected via a T1 which is dedicated for these downloads. We have an Avaya PBX (two 8700's active/passive) with modular messaging. I can't figure out the version of the PBX.

If you like I can run some commands to get you more info. I would just need to know what to do. I havn't done much more than queues, hunts, minor vectoring, and station administration. Thanks for the help
 
Uniform Dial Plan (UDP) is used to connect multiple switches together but make them look like one big switch. You can pick up your phone and dial 4 or 5 digits and be connected to a phone in a different switch. The host PBX manipulates the digits sent to the remote PBX to give them what their PBX wants. It's all transparent to the person making the call.
