Hello,

I want to move the installation of Unified Communications Server to another Server. Does somebody now wich steps must be taken?

Kind regards.

Always specify the release of software you are dealing with. Follow the documentation for an upgrade which discusses backing up of the database etc. The AMC center that handles licenses will have the licenses tied to the current server. You would need access to the AMC or will have to go through your VAR to have the hardware ID reset so the licenses can be downloaded to the new server.

The single biggest problem with communications is the illusion that it has taken place.

You right, the Unified Communications Server version 2.0.0.24. What do you mean with AMC center and VAR?

The AMC is Mitel's licensing engine.. Your licence is tied to the MAC of the machine that originally registered with the AMC. Your VAR is required to issue a hardware reset on the MAC to permit license to be moved to a new server. The VAR (Value Added Resller) is your dealer. The VAR may or may not charge you for this service.

NO GOOD DEED GOES UNPUNISHED!

I think you mean the Mitel IP telephone system!

What I mean is the software "Unified Communications Server" that is used in our organization for unified communications.
Like calling from Outlook and IE.

THe AMC registration is the same for most Mitel products.
It either uses the MAC address of the server or the iButton/SysID on a 3300
If you change the server you will need to clear the MAC address of your current server from the AMC before synching the new server to the AMC.
There is no automatic delete/update of hardware ID.

Hello you guys,

I did not spent any time to this migration but I realy want to move it now, Reason: I need this Server for other goals.

I want to move the Mitel Unified Communication Server to another Server and the clients must be connected to this other Server.

Is there any documentation available for this proces or can somebody help me with the right steps.

I hope to hear from you guys!

Are you using UCA 2.0?
If so do you have the software to re-install?
If so you will need to do a couple of things first
Backup the config
Clear the AMC hardware ID

Once this is done you will need to install the MSL
Sync with AMC
Download the UCA blade
Restore from backup

If you are considering upgrading you will need to start a fresh install as there is no upgrade path to rel 3.0/4.0

Thank you for your reply.

Yes, we use version 2.0.0.24.
Yes we got the software to reinstall.

How can I backup teh config?
How can I clear the AMC hardware ID?

Can you tell me what you mean by install the MSL?
Can you tell me how to sync with AMC?
Can you tell me hoe to download the UCA blade?
Restore from backup, you mean importing the config file?

My apologies for the many questions.

The hardware ID needs to be cleared and you can't do it yourself. Only Mitel dealers or VARs have a account in the AMC licensing center where you have to log in and go through some steps to basically unlock the software licenses from the MAC of your current server. So Step one

Contact your dealer and tell them what you are doing and get there assistance in unlocking the licenses. If you don't have a Mitel dealer then you better find one becuase otherwise you can go no further.

The MSL is the base operating system. Its a custom Linux ( basically its CENTOS Linux of some flavour. Once you have it installed there are on screen instructions to add the necessary IP information. At this point you need to retrieve the licensing from the licensing center by entering the application record for your UC installation. This you can get off your existing server but unless you unlock your licenses from the previous server you will never be able to download the licenses and you are stuck. I believe in 2.0 once the licenses are downloaded you can download the UC blade via the server itself.

The single biggest problem with communications is the illusion that it has taken place.

Thank you for your reply,

The Hardware ID is already reset by the Mitel dealer.

Hello,

Software installed on Server B and activited the licenses.
But how can I export all settings from Server A and import them at Server B?

if you browse to the system manager there is an option on the left for backups
select backup to desktop once this is done you should then on your new system restore from backup
From memory the filename is server.tgz

Before you restore the backup make sure that in the blades section the the UCA blade is downloaded and installed first otherwise the backup will fail.

Supernova99, thank you for all you replies but I think you mean an other system!!!

This software called: Unified Communications Server is installed on a Windows 2003 Server. There is no option to choose for system manager! The MSI I use is UnifiedCommunicationsServer.msi.

Ah my mistake!
This version stores the backup files in the installation folder.
You can just copy these over to the new server.

My mistake, i had given you this information :)
I'm already glad that you are helping me.

the software is already been offline activited on the new Server.
When I copy the folders and files over my existing 'new' installation, would that be a problem for my license?

I just copied the folder from my 'old' Server to the new Server only now the software is pointing to my 'old' Server. When i remove this 'old' server and add my new Server where the software is installed on then still the software is pointig to the 'old' Server. The main folder is Mitel, the folders under this mainfolder are:
- Unified Communications Admin Tool
- Unified Communications Licensing Server
- Unified Communications Presence Server
- Unified Communications Server
- Unified Communications Telephony Server
Is there a specific folder that I must copy from the old to the new Server?

Copied from the Admin guide
Backing up the Database
To back up the Collaboration server database, copy the YA Web Collaboration Server folder to an external location.
The location of this folder depends on where the Collaboration server was installed (C:\Program Files\Mitel Networks, if installed in the default server directory).

Restoring the Database
To restore the Collaboration server database:
1. Stop the Your Assistant Collaboration Server service (Windows Control Panel >
Administrative Tools > Services).
2. Copy the backup of the YA Web Collaboration Server folder to the Collaboration server installation directory.
3. Restart the Your Assistant Collaboration Server service.

When you look at my post on 17 Feb 11 3:35 you can see there is no folder like you describe! Is there any documentation to move the installation to a new Server?

There should be a *.mdb file in the server folder this is the databse file.
You might need to run the config wizard again to change the IP address of the server.

With the files and folders copied over when you run the installation wizard it should prompt for various settings including the IP address of the server.
