I accidentally quick-formatted a hard drive with two NTFS partitions during Win XP installation. I can retrieve some of the files on one of the partitions using GetDataBack or similar utilities... but many files are fragmented and some of the recovered files are not even readable.

Is there any way to unformat the hard drive??? ... feel extremely desperate now and I'm willing to sacrifice my life to recover all the files on the drive...

You are not alone.

In almost all cases a quick-format drive can be recovered, but stop using it immediately.

Of course professional help is available...do a Google for 'data recovery'. Some members here offer that service, I will check some other threads for leads.

Thank you all of you for the advice... In fact, I tried different recovery utilities... all of them successfully found the file on the hard drive... but the files recovered are mostly unreadable. Some of the files are split into many fragments and I'm unable to join them together...

Tried some search on google about file fragments consolidation or similar topics but in vain. Can anyone share with us the process of file recovery? ... I really don't know what to do with all these file fragments...

You can search the file repair tool on Google and download it to try. But i don't think it will be a good effection. I suggest your try other data recovery programs, because each program can get a different result.
