Access 2000 - I have tried to import a DBF database into Access several times before and was successful. I just tried to do it again and got the message "Unexpected error from external database driver (100019)." I have not being able to find what can cause this situation. Please Help.

Just guessing but there are several different formats for dBase files. Are you sure that this one has the same format as the ones that you successfully imported?

The other potential problem is dBase files with memo fields. Some dBase systems (Clipper for example) used Replacable Database Drivers that kept their memo fields in proprietary-formatted files. Most ODBC drivers can read the memo files that were produced by the "standard" dBase system but often, not those proprietary ones.

Thanks for your reply. I am sure this one has the same format as the ones I successfully imported (dBase IV). There are no memo fields. Any ideas?

I am still looking for a solution to this problem. I have search lots of places with no luck. Any halp is appreciated.

We have a similar problem with loading Paradox files into Access. If any programs are open and linked to the tables in any way, we get a similar message.

I have tried other places and I have found no solution to this problem. Also, I tried accessing MicroSoft. There is no information regaring this kind of problem in the different places they recomended. Is there anyway to send a request to Microsoft for information without paying the exhorbitant amount they are asking for? Any help is very much appreciated.

Try to import it into Excel. If successful, you should be able to import the Excel file into your database. If unsuccessful then you may have a corrupted dbf file.

I not able to find any information matching to your error code (100019). Is the error code and message correct?
Did you check import log?
Have you recently carried out any updates or service packs?
Can you try importing the previously successful files once again?...just to get any idea...

Sharing the best from my side...

PaulF and PGoRule,
Thank you for your help. The error code is (10019). I just tried to import it into Excel and got the same error message. It seems that there is some corruption in the DBF. Do you know of an inexpensive utility to repair the database? Any Ideas? Help is very much appreciated.

I want you thank you all for your help. It is appreciated.
I just got a solution from Microsoft which is in Article ID: 306095, title: 'ACC2000: "Unexpected Error from External Database Drive 8458" Error Message When you Import dbase III File.'
I followed the instructions and was successful after the third step. HAVE A WONDERFUL DAY.
