Hello,

I need to purchase a cable locator ASAP for a couple jobs. Both are large RV parks with underground CATV, Phone and power. I need to get a good locator that will work with telecom stuff and high voltage cabling. I'm looking at the 3M 2273 as the top quality one. Anyone have experience with this or similar equipment and want to make any recommendations?

Thanks, I looked at things and ordered the 3M Dynatel 2273. It was just under $3,000, but the locate guys I talked to said it was the way to go. Now, just need to locate...uh...locate jobs to pay for it.

sorry for butting in on your question but i need help.
i need some info on buried line locators for low voltage cables. it would be great to be able to obtain a circuit diagram so i could build my own but i have had no luck finding one.

could anyone help?

I bought a Subsite 75t a couple of years ago Daron. I would highly recommend this product. It is sold by Ditch Witch. I started using it for locating our underground cabling and have used it to locate electrical conduits and other cabling.

Daron,

We use the 3M models as well.

They work fairly well, although sometimes when working with concrete, you can run into issues when rebar is present. Still works, just a little bit more difficult.

Since you're doing this yourself, I think you'll have an easier time working the whole picture out.

Where you want accuracy, is when you're marking for other people. CallUSA and Dig-Alert require anything that's close to be hand dug and exposed. Makes sense.

It's a whole lot easier when you're working with a metal based conduit than a plastic based one, but that's pretty rare for newer installations.

Anyhow. Good luck, tell us how it does.
