Unconditional forward - voicemail behavior?

If an unconditional forward has been established from one extension to another, if the extension being forwarded to does not answer, what controls which extension's voicemail will pick up? Ideally, I'd like the voicemail for the extension being forwarded to, to pick up, but I'm not sure if this is possible.

Thank you!

The original target of the call will always be the VM target. As per design.

And it's common sense. If I forward my calls to Bob for whatever reason then Bob shouldn't be getting my voicemails, they rang me not him. Also if it went to the VM of where you forwarded it you could very quickly lose track of who the voicemail is actually for, unless they say your name in the message or they only ever deal with one person. :)

I see.

That said, what would be a mechanism to handle the following?

A particular user has a "private" line forwarded directly to his extension. He travels between 2 locations, with an extension, x and y, at each location. If he is at location x, he would like the private line to ring extension x. If he is at location y, he would like the private line to ring extension y. If he does not answer the extension and he is at location x, he would like the voicemail for extension x to pickup. If he does not answer the extension and he is at location y, he would like the voicemail for extension y to pickup.

I currently have him setting an unconditional forward from extension x to y, but as addressed above, this prevents extension y's voicemail from picking up if he does not answer extension y.

Thanks!

Twin the phones, they take a single extn then, both ring when that extn is called, both send the same extn out and both access a single mailbox :)

Yes, I could do that, except that extension x is already twinned to another extension (not y).

Is there a short code to change which extension is twinned to another?

Thanks!

What's wrong with a group then? And a shortcode/button to access the mailbox :)

I would just hot desk. Give him extension x, when he goes to location why he logs in as extension x. Unless these locations are not scn.

Hmm...that sounds interesting. I did not know about this capability. A couple of questions:

-Do I need to remove the User currently associated with extension y?

-Does the hot desk ability affect the current twinning configuration, or are they completely separate?

Just have to say...you guys are the best. [thumbsup2]

The feedback I get from this forum is rock solid, which is hard to find today.

It's appreciated!

I would advise you start reading the manuals and help files to be honest, there is a lot to the system you can easily mess up if you just go by guesswork/fly by the seat of your pants with your programming :)

You need only one user and twinning will only work on the site were the twinned extension is located.
But if the user is in the site were the twinned extension is NOT located then twinning is stupid as the user cannot pickup that twinned phone from there (arms to short)
