unable to view router software in browser

We have a DSL-504 router with an ethernet connection to a switch. Access to the internet is fine from all computers browsers on the LAN. However none of the browsers can view the routers configuration software, the page loading bar just hangs. We have DNS servers set up on 2 servers acting as domain controllers on the network.The router IP address is 192.168.0.1 and is configured as the gateway in DHCP
Any ideas?
 
Sounds to me like your browser might be blocking whatever scripts or popups that you need to log into the router. Try temporarily setting your browser security to low, or add this address to your trusted sites, and try again.
 
Yes I've tried amending browser settings as you suggest but it makes no difference. I feel it is something to do with our network as I am able to view the router software externally by entering the fixed IP address for the network.
I am at a total loss!
 
I had a D-Link for awhile, and I sometimes had to clear my Temporary Internet Files to get it connect.
 
Yes Koonan I've done that too. I've reset the router to it's factory settings, updated firmware, reset it many times. An anomaly is that I used to be able to browse the software on one of the LAN PCs, However I bought a new PC for this node and it is still possible to get to the configuration software screen but incredibly slow to load. This ADSL router is connected to the network via ethernet cable to a free port on a switch, could this set up be wrong.
 
Oh, your ADSL router/switch is connected to another switch on your network? If so, did you use a cross-over cable between the two switches?
 
The ADSL router is connected to the switch via an ethernet CAT5 cable. I tried using a cross over cable but the same result
