I have a computer that has a NIC installed and when I connected it to my network I was not able to get an ip address. So I went to view network connections and it was not there. I went to device manager unistalled and restarted and windows found it and still no network connection. I then thought NIC might be bad so I tried my wireless usb connection and also nothing on network connection. I did ipconfig/all and PCI NIC shows 0.0.0.0 and usb connection shows media disconnected. I did a winsock fix and nothing. I did ping localhost and got all four replies. So I need help dont know what else to do.

IS your cable a known working cable9test on another computer?
Is you port good?
Is your NIC enabled?
Can you do loopback on you NIC?
What kind of network are you connecting to? (home or business)
Have you released and renewed your IP?
Are you plugged into a wall port, a router, or a switch?
If this is a home connection, are any other computers able to connect? -Have you done a power cycle?

I would walk trough and make sure of all these steps first. I think it is most likely a very simple issue, but if one little step or detail is overlooked, it can seem like a very daunting task.

How exactly are you connecting to the network?

Sorry guys I already figured it out. I right clicked my computer and clicked on manage, then clicked on services and found that network connections was stopped so I set it to automatic and that did it.
