Unable to Upload Files

For the past week and a half, I have been unable to upload any "physical" files. It can't simply be an "unable to upload" problem, because then my Internet simply wouldn't be working as packets wouldn't be able to get sent out. However, I cannot upload any files through my e-mail, FTP server, or even through my network connection. My roommate's (I live in an university dorm room) connection is perfectly fine, so I was thinking this is a Windows problem.

If any has ANY help at all, please let me know. I have no real idea of what the heck is wrong, and I'm utterly confused.

Thanks,
-=ViC

Nope, haven't installed any firewalls or done anything with firewalls lately

What about anti-virus software? some include firewalls that run w/ default settings. Infact, what about XP's integrated firewall, do you have that running?

Nope. I have disabled all firewalls and I'm sure of that. I don't use any firewalls, although I am behind a university one because I live on campus. However, everyone else's Internet connection is fine, but mine isn't.

-=ViC

Are you getting an error message of any sort? If so, post it verbatim...

Are you sure of the network protocol settings for the connection?

And to clarify: You have no outside access? Where are you trying to upload files to?

If I had to guess you are restricted based on your MAC address at the university router.

Yeah, my settings are fine, as I haven't changed anything in the past few weeks, and my Internet connection just started having problems for some reason.

Outside access? I mean I have an Internet connection, but I am unable to upload files to any FTP server, attach anything to my e-mails, or allow other users to grab my Shared Files off my computer.

-=ViC

Oh, and no I don't receive any error messages at all.

-=ViC

Dang. I've searched the 'net and this seems to be the only other experience like mine. No uploads, yet a perfect ISP connection, and no error messages. I have fully upgraded MSJVM for my xpPro OS (sp1 with all updates), as well as JRE version 1.4.2_01 Java HotSpot Client VM, but no config will solve this problem.

No firewall(s), Norton disabled, trying to upload directly to the web (not using Outlook or some other program). With updated IE6, Opera 7.20, Yahoo browsers... same problem. Hope this additional information leads to a solution, as I REALLY need one.

And to the guy who started this, I really feel for 'ya. Let me know if you found an answer.

Amazing! I thought I was the only person with this problem. And no, unfortunately, I don't have a solution yet. If you find out anything, please let me know as soon as possible (I'll do the same for you).

Yo! Mastavic! I may have good news; I can upload.

After tons of fruitless research, I found an obscure post somewhere that recommended the following configuration. It is valid if you have the latest Sun Java installed, which I recommend, because my problems began way back in JUNE, long before I DL'd the SunVM in my attempts to rectify them.

Here goes:

In IE6 go to Tools, then select Internet Options. Select the Advanced tab. Scroll down and make certain these are selected [ they are NOT what you get if you select Restore Defaults...]

Under Java (Sun) check
Use Java 2 v 1.4.2_01 for <applet>

Under Microsoft VM check
Java console enabled
JIT compiler for virtual machine enabled

Then restart.

Also, I have no idea if it caused the initial problem, but I began having difficulty after downloading a Yahoo! Active X control as part of making it my default email client. If you have the ymmapi module installed, kill it; all you will lose is an upload progress bar, and you can config your email default yourself.

If none of this works for you, let me know and we can compare settings and configurations. Also let me know if it DOES work and I'll submit it to FAQ's; I cannot believe we are the only ones to have this problem, but we are one of the few to have posted regarding it.

Take care.

Hey brutalboyy,
How's it going?

I am happy that you can finally upload once again, I know how big of a pain it is that you can't, and especially that no one else knows what is wrong so they can't help you out.

As for myself, I still cannot upload. Well, let me explain this first. Under the Advanced tab of Internet Options, I do not have a listing for Java (Sun). As for Microsoft VM, "JIT compiler for virtual machine enabled" was already checked, but "Java console enabled" was not. I decided to check "Java console enabled" and then restarted my system.

That takes me here. I still cannot upload, and everything is the same as before.

I have been through the Internet looking for a way to upload once again, but hours after hours of research has led me nowhere still.

Mastavic,
Download Hijack This from Run the program, Click on the Config Button, Click on Misc Tools, Tick both boxes under Generate Startup List Button, Then click the button.

It will open a txt document, copy the contents of that file and post it here.

Any feed back is appreciated.

Without confusing the issue by posting my own log, I have been following your exchanges and comparing notes:

While not afflicted by PCHealth in Autorun entries, the only other notable [ excluding user-installed software ]
difference in our logs were some Yahoo! BHO's which I have disabled, as my problem is still occurring itermittently.

Wish you guys the best of luck, and thank you for your help. I'll keep looking on with interest.

brutalboyy if you want us to view your log feel free to start a new post!

Thanks for the help so far. What am I supposed to do to remove it? The link you gave me said:
"To remove the worm from the system you should scan all drives on your computer with an anti-virus program, remove all worm copies from the system, and then remove the worm data file (winfile.dll), worm's registry keys (see above) and worm's instruction in the WIN.INI file."

I scan my computer with Norton Anti-Virus 2003 every week or so, and have gotten nothing (the most recent time I scanned my system was last night). How do I remove the other items mentioned?

Thank you.
