unable to to do password recovery on pix 515

hi guys, hope someone can help me out...
we've got pix 515, was configured but never used in the end, and the guy who did has left and can't remeber the password.

I've followed the cisco password recovery method, but no luck, using solarwinds tftp server.

will not allow me to set interface
when I do:
interface 0 (get the following error)

monitor> interface 0
0: i8255X @ PCI(bus:0 dev:13 irq:10)
1: i8255X @ PCI(bus:0 dev:14 irq:7 )

Ethernet auto negotiation timed out.
Ethernet port 0 could not be initialized.
monitor>

so I continue and do teh following

monitor> address 192.168.1.2
address 192.168.1.2
monitor> server 192.168.1.1
server 192.168.1.1
monitor> file np62.bin
file np62.bin
monitor> tftp
tftp np62.bin@192.168.1.1
TFTP failed (return:-1 arg:0x0)
monitor>

any ideas,

It looks like you haven't connected e0 to the rest of your ethernet.
Are you using a straight cable into a hub or switch, or a crossover cable directly to your tftp server?

If you ARE sure the cabling is correct, try powercycling the PIX...

sorry i did'nt explain well

using a console cable as the cisco website requests,
plus it has been taken offline, so whatever IP the pix was set, has no relevance anymore.

what i need to know can I set any private IP address on the pix, since I don't have the admin password, does it mattter what IP I set when using a console cable.

Still, it looks like your e0 is not connected to an ethernet.

During the password recovery, you can set the IP-address to anything you want.
But it won't matter if your underlying ethernet doesn't work.

This is not enough.
You simply need to connect an Ethernet link to the TFTP server.
Either connect via the hub/switch, or a crossover cable directly to the PC.
