unable to start websphere server

Hello,
I have installed Websphere 5.0.2 Express trail version on Red Hat Linux 9. The installtion went fine. But I am unable to start the server. I am not able trace out where i am doing wrong. Pls help me. The following is the error message.

[root@localhost bin]# ./startServer.sh server1

./startServer.sh: line 1: was.install.root: command not found
./startServer.sh: line 1: java.install.root: command not found
./startServer.sh: line 1: cell.name: command not found
./startServer.sh: line 1: node.name: command not found
./startServer.sh: line 84: /bin/java: No such file or directory

Check out the setting of default paths in startServer.sh script.Make sure all Environment variables are defined and pointing to the rite location.
