Can't start the database engine. Keep getting Dr. Watson's in rds.exe. One of my colleagues initialized the astpsdat.db while I was on vacation, due to space needs. Since then, the database is unavailable. I have rebooted the server. I can't run dbcheck.exe or any utility. I would like to initialize again, I think. Does anyone have any ideas? Can I manually move files out of the database directory?

Thanks,
DaveNYC

THanks, Databasebaba. I cannot run the utilities because I cannot get the database engine started. I copied my existing Database dir to a temp directory, then I copied a new Database dir from a fresh install and it seems to be working ok now. Of course, I have lost all my old data.

Do you think I could have gotten the database engine started with my original database by deleting all the temp files and r*.*?

It should start...

Now you can run recover DB under backup/utilities menu so you can recover your database from the last backup tape..

DatabaseBaba...

It's sounds like your colleague deleted a few more files other than the R* files from your database folder, that's stopping the db from working. I've seen this occur.. funny enough when i last went on holiday.. :)
