I have a single user have an issue using an Excel spreadsheet in a Word mail merge. The spreadsheet has multiple worksheets, and she only wants to use one of them, but the only option she's given is "entire worksheet". The problem follows her userid, so it's part of her profile, but I can't find what controls this. Any assistance would be appreciated.

Hi,

You user has a WORKBOOK that has many WORKSHEETS, and MailMerge does not give the opportunity to select a single WORKSHEET from the many in the WORKBOOK? Is that correct?

Hi Skip.

Yes, you are correct. My obfuscatory vernacular made it a bit hard to understand. :^)

Thanks,
Alan

What version of Word is the user running?

Is it the same version as others are using, who do NOT have this problem?

Help>Detect and repair

If that does not help then

Reload Office.

No luck with either. Whatever setting it is must be stored in her profile.

What if YOU logon to her machine, or SHE to yours?

Same thing - works for me, not her, no matter the what PC.

Apparently, she's been specifying DDE as the data type, which will only access the first worksheet in the workbook. By forcing her to OLE DB, she can access the data she needs. Now I just need to find out how to get Word to default to OLE DB rather than giving her other options, so she can't mess it up again.

Oh, please! It's not rocket science! Don't you just scroll down thru the

Files of type:

and select

Excel Files (*.xls)

???

In addition to that, she's prompted for a database type, whereas no one else is.

Alan

She gets a "Confirm Data Source" window that includes:

OLE DB Database Files
Microsoft Excel Worksheet via Converter
MS Excel Workstheets via DDE
Excel Files via ODBC

I'm interested in the SEQUENCE of selections from the Menu

The screen before this is the browsing window to find the data file. The information from my previous post is in the order that it's listed in the window.

Alan

And this is in the Select data Source Window, followed by the Confirm Data Source Window, when WHAT is selected in the Select data Source Window?
