Hi, I apologize if this is in the wrong section, I just recently signed up here in hopes that someone could help me fix a problem I'm having. Getting straight to the point, I cannot connect to the internet, via wireless adapter or plugging into the back of the modem. Under my connection's status, it's able to send packets, yet it's unable to recieve any. My IP adress has been set as a 169.254.x.x.
Additionally, if I go to the cmd prompt and use ipconfig /renew it states that it's unable to connect to the DHCP server.

This has been driving me crazy, any help would be much appreciated.

Can the host computer connect? What does your event log say? What OS are you running?

The host computer connects fine, I'm using Win XP Home, I'm not sure about the event log =\

Host computer? What host computer?

did you check whether the roter is bewing assigned with a dhcp server IP address or not.

I assume that you have a computer physically connected to the modem and that is the host computer. You are having problems with another computer connecting using a wireless connection and by using a physical connection. Right?
Double check you settings on the router for wireless, and check the connection settings on the problem PC against the settings on the PC that works.

I had a problem once that when I tried to ipconfig/renew gave me a similar error message, it was a Winsock problem, might be worth while to check that out.

Check the winsock or mabye reset the router or DHCP server is not starter on the router. alos check the services on the pc ot make sure it start. or try to hardcode ips into the pc.

Well, first off make sure that if your router has a switch module for layer 2 connectivity, make sure you are using a straight-thru cable and not a crossover---the modem-to-pc usually uses a crossover cable, and the router with the extra ports (switch module) connects to the pc via straight though cable. Please post a topology.
