Hey all, I'm trying to get relaying set up on my Exchange server so my network devices can email me when they have issues. I have a receive connector configured with the addresses of those network devices under the Network tab in "Receive mail from remote servers that have these IP addresses," under the Authentication tab nothing is selected and under the Permission Groups tab I have Anonymous Users, Exchange Users and Exchange Servers selected. The biggest problem I have is our bookkeeper can no longer email employees their earnings statements (comes from the payroll server). This all started when I moved everything over to my new Exchange server. The last server was really easy to get configured for relaying so I must be missing something really simple but I don't have any idea what it could be. Any ideas?

Thanks,

Joe B

Did you point the payroll server to the new exchange server ip for relay? basic question i know, but you'd be suprised how many times people forget this.

TechyMcSe2k, yes, we already changed the destination IP to that of the new Exchange Server. I'll take a look at the Petri link you provided and see what I can see there.

Thanks,

So I thought I'd create a new receive connector and when I try I get the following error:

Summary: 1 item(s). 0 succeeded, 1 failed.
Elapsed time: 00:00:00

DeviceRelay
Failed

Error:
Active Directory operation failed on srv-dc2.domain.com. This error is not retriable. Additional information: The parameter is incorrect.
Active directory response: 00000057: LdapErr: DSID-0C090B38, comment: Error in attribute conversion operation, data 0, vece

The requested attribute does not exist.

Exchange Management Shell command attempted:
new-ReceiveConnector -Name 'DeviceRelay' -Usage 'Custom' -Bindings '192.168.1.119:25','192.168.1.124:25' -RemoteIPRanges '0.0.0.0-255.255.255.255' -Server 'SRV-EXCHANGE2'

Elapsed Time: 00:00:00

I'm trying to find out which "parameter is incorrect" and what "requested attribute" it doesn't like. Come to think of it, I believe my previous Exchange Server only had one receive connector when I added the Relay connector to it...

58sniper, we're half-way there now. I followed the instructions in the document and now servers and workstations (that have their IP addresses in the list) can relay through the Exchange server. BUT, I just tested my email archiver and it can't connect. The only authentication mechanism running is TLS. I turned it off, saved the connector and tried it again but no joy. I'll remote in tonight, remove TLS, reboot the server and then try it.

Thanks,

Joe B

PS, we're only half-way there but the labor distribution reports went out so here's your star.

Hey 58sniper, after doing more "spelunking" I discovered that I wasn't putting the second receive connector's IP address in my devices and that's why they weren't working. I tried to give you a second star but no joy. Thanks for the help and it's all working fine now.

Thanks,

Joe B
