We are unable to register 12xx sets to a BCM450. The problems we encouter are as follows:
BCM is setup as DHCP server.
registering 11XX sets => no problems
registering 200X sets => no problems

registering 12xx sets => trouble
When connecting the 12xx set the set displays information:
Loading BootC
12x0 IP telephone Manual configuration

The set keeps booting.

Reading alarms in element manager:
"Terminal Dn: NIL_DN: firmware version being upgraded from A62AC00 to bcmmode\062AC5L.bin"

Even if we configure the set manually (IP settings etc) we encounter the same problem.

Latest patches are applied.
IP licenses applied.
No network interference because the BCM and connected BES switch is in our lab.

IP Phone 12xx ships from the factory with just the "bootloader" firmware on it (this is different from other IP Phones). The first thing it has to do when registering to a BCM is therefore to download the proper firmware.

I also have problems registering these phones.

I can never get it to work unless i set to manual config with static ip address.
Then one day i set it to partial dhcp because the customer was now going to use DHCP and this phone registered ok.

Allways works with the other eariler models but not these new beasties.

NOTE: when registering the phone using static ip address set the G/W address in the phone to 0.0.0.0.
This has worked for me in the past

@gwebster: Thanks, is it possible to load the firmware outside the BCM? I mean, running TFTP or something on my laptop and load the firmware from there?

@snowman50: Thanks, Ill give that a try!

If available, have you tried registering the 12xx sets to another BCM system 40 or 450 or CS1000 R5.5 to compare results? Also is it happening on one or two 12xx phones or all of them.

Thanks all,
For now I am still having trouble, even on a BCM400 4.0
I have opened a case at Nortel and awaiting for answers.
I will update you with info if available.

IP Phones 1200's do not work on BCM 4.0. They only work on BCM 50 Rls. 3.0 and BCM 450 1.0
