Hello Tek-Tips

I am having an issue on ip office 500v2 8.1 recording the Greetings for the Auto Attendant. I've tried both methods outlined in the embedded voice mail manual:

1. I've triad a local recording by dialing the shortcode *8104. The problem is that that when I go to save the greeting, nothing happens and the call cuts out after about 8 seconds. I made sure the local recording option does have a checkbox next to it, but still no dice.

2. I've tried recording a Wav file and using the greeting utility to convert it to the proper format. I upload the file to the SD card and Create an AA using the name I picked in the Greeting utility. After testing the AA, it appears that the greeting file I placed on the SD card is now deleted and all I hear is silence.

This System was initially installed at ip office version 6 and later updated to 8.1. I've only dealt with voicemail pro, so I'm not sure what I'm missing as far as using the embedded AA. The existing AAs still work, I've just been unsuccessful at re-recording the greetings or even creating entirely new recordings.

Any insight into this would be much appreciated.

first auto attendant is *8401 auto attendant 2 is *8402 and so on
the *8401 is a pre greeting that needs to get activated with a time profile (stay away from this)
The code to record is in the Auto Attendant programming at the "Menu Options" shortcode on the first tab of the Auto Attendant

Give a tech a solution and he will be back tomorrow to ask you the next question, teach a tech how to read the manual and he will be able to solve the problems for a life time.

I was only successful at recording *8401 when I did it from the reception phone. I had to check off the reception box in "user" settings and then it worked for me.

*8401 should work from any phone and so far I had no issues with it. Now that I jinxed it I will have enormous difficulties on the next one, LOL

On the AA Page, ensure "Enable Local Recording" is ticked.

Thanks for the suggestions guys, but so far no luck. I'm starting to suspect something has gone wrong with the system after the 8.1 upgrade. I've so far been unable to upload any files to the system as they disappear after the system reboots.

@Wallysworld when you say check off reception mode, do you mean have it checked or not check? I haven't tried changing this option yet.

Any other suggestions?

I had to have it checked.
Although, now that you mention it... I've got a system @ 8.1(65) and have been having issues with it retaining any changes I'm making as well? I make a change and reboot the system and the programming reverts to the original programming. Weird. Maybe it's an issue with the patch?
I don't want to hijack your thread but I make a change to a users name and extension # (ip phone) and when I do an immediate reboot it changes back to the original extension.
Hopefully, somebody else has some other fix.

delete the backup on the SD card before you reboot, then it has no old programming to revert back to, maybe they have done the same dumb thing they did on the old Partner R7 and automatically restore the backup if it detects something fishy.

but make sure you have the backup as well otherwise it might blow up in your face.

IPO Releases 8.1.63 and the newer update 8.1.65 had major programming issues in both Basic mode and IP Office mode. "Downgrade" the system to either 8.0.53 or 8.1.57 and most of the programming problems should disappear. R8.1.63 had all kinds of problems with losing programming, losing call routing, AA programming issues, inability to program groups correctly, etc. - just get rid of it.

I've been fighting similar issues on a brand new system that I upgraded out of the box to 8.1.65 (basic) here in the shop. I've spent a week trying to get simple things to work like Auto-Att "Replay Menu Greeting". The system has also been losing programming changes and wiping out DSS key programming. Web Admin is flaky and so is Manager. I've setup plenty of IPO's with both GUI's and never had this much trouble. I will try going to 8.1.57 as suggested here and post results.

From what version of R6 do you was upgrading?

Any more info out there on this? I am having the exact same issue: record menu options using *8401, 2 when finished, 3 to save. And it will not save the recording, I've tried deleting the AA, deleting the recordings in embedded file mgmt and rebuilding it from scratch, still nothing. Downgrading is really not feasible for me I'm in a remote community with terrible internet connections.
