Hi all,

Apologies if this is long winded and senseless but I'll give it a shot.

Issue:
Can send faxes but cannot receive.

Backgroud:
I recently had to swap out a 3300 controller, I had a very recent backup and simply replaced like for like (swapping the i-button and restoring etc). There was 1 little hiccup where the external call quality was absolutely awful, on checking the troubleshooting section of THB found the voice encoding of the ISDN to be wrong (was nil - changed to ADI - not sure how this was working previously as the original 3300 was set to nil???).

Setup (i think):
There is some sort of fax server directly attached to a quad BRI MMC and calls come in on the ISDN and are forwarded to this server through the BRI.

So Far:
calls to the fax numbers do produce the horrible data/fax sounds you would expect.

I have been through a very large portion of the settings from the old controller and baring the voice encoding that I changed, there does not appear to be any differences.

I have tried reverting the "data call alternate digit inversion" in link descriptor form but still no joy.
----------
I really have no idea where to look from here, any help would be a greatfully received.

Many Thanks,
dhehir

My guess is that the encoding was right and something else caused the quality problem. Change it back and try the fax and see what happens.

Thanks for the responses guys, I tried reverting the voice encoding back to NIL, but immediately get the real bad quality external calls, unfortunately I didn't get chance to test the fax as management insist on reverting back straight away.

Any thoughts on what may be going on here?

many thanks,

dhehir

Just to be clear, this is straight TDM correct? No IP/SIP trunking, no IP interface at all.

When you have the poor voice quality, is it in both directions?

How/when does the fax fail when you try to send? Does it get through the preamble?

Does it fail sending faxes to ANY external fax machine, or just a certain ones? How many have they tried to call?

Have you tried a loopback call?

Again, thanks for the responses.

I have now figured out where the problem was.

The controller that I used to replace the faulty one, was set up originally for North America in the license and options selection form. I guess this information is not part of the backup and I didn't check thoroughly when upgrading prior to the swap.

I have now changed this to UK and everything is working as expected.

many thanks,

dhehir

as I was reading your post I was telling myself, "self, he has restored the backup but country selection is probably the wrong one"

good on u!
