Hi guys, I need your help.

I am currently using CA Arcserve r12.

I am using it for almost 3 months already. The backup was good until these error came out.

I think it started when I asked someone to change the set of tapes.

When I ran a backup, the first error was "Unable to write to media."

I cleaned the tape head hoping that it will fix the error.

When i reboot the machine, new error came out "Unable to position media."

I've been searching for some help for 1 1/2 weeks over the internet, but no luck.

Please, i really need you suggestions or help.

i ran a backup today and checked the tape log.

I saw this, during the error.

"UnExpected SCSI error ==> Job ID[286], Device[3], ABSL (1 0 2 0)......"

I also noticed that my devices configuration is 4, but as you can see on the data, the "Device[3]" is 3.

I am really new to CA although I am using it for 3 months already. There's much to learn on it.

What could be the possible cause of this error?

is it really on hardware sir Cyklops?

Because we didn't touched anything on the hardware except on the tapes. That we've changed.

the scsi error may or may not be related to the problem.

at the point in time the write failure happens whats in the tape log? leave it in Detail mode and if need be and copy that portion of the log here.

sir david, i performed a Long Erase on a Tape today then I noticed that the error on "Unable to write to media" was gone.
But a new error appeared, it says "Unable to backup 1 mailboxes"

The backup was incomplete.

that would be related to an Exchange backup and unrelated to this problem.

okay sir david, i already fix the error.

thanks for reminding me about the tape log.

I was able to trace the problem.

thanks.
