I have a Linky befvp41 router setup in doc's office. I have 3 transcriptionsist w/public ip's. Setup VPN on these 3 pc's and have no probs. However, I have 1 pc w/private ex. 192.168.?.? and am unable to ping SCO server w/static IP behind router. Why?. I can ping any DHCP addy but time out when pinging the static ip. This VPN is setup solely for access to SCO box and can't get the one pc to ping. I simply need to be able to telnet to static ip behind router.
Any suggestions on this would be greatly appreciated.

Thanx. Chris

is it possible the router blocks ping? you can try to test it by using telnet if you know which port opens.

Well, actually I can ping any DHCP addy behind the router just not the static setup on SCO box. The only common denominator I can figure out is that the 3 pc's w/public ip ex. 65.23.55.88 can ping and therefore telnet to the static ip of the SCO box. However, the one remote pc w/private ip ex.192.168.?.? can only hit DHCP addy's. This is really strange and no one at Linky or any thread I've found has addressed this problem.

Thanx.

Make sure the SCO box doesn't have a built-in fierwall blocking ICMP traffic. Are you abel to ping the SCO box from another device? I would suggest you run a packet sniffer and try to determine if the ICMP packets are actually reaching the segement where the SCO box resides. Ethereal is a pretty good free packet sniffer and quite easy to use.

I can ping the SCO box from any pc running IPSEC w/public IP. What I can't do is ping the only static ip behind the Linky w/any pc w/private ip. Wierd huh? I can ping the SCO box from within the office from any machine as they telnet into the SCO box via front-end MMClient software. However, I can't telnet to the SCO box from any pc running IPSEC if I have a private ip. I realize it shouldn't make any difference what type of IP I have but for the love of GOD if I setup my pc in the office w/209.202.?.? I can ping the SCO box, but, if I change it and let the router give me an DHCP addy then I can only ping DHCP addy's behind the router. (lifting revolver to head) Hep me!
