Hello everyone. I am attempting to set up a VPN from my house to my computer at work. After a lot of reading and searching, I was finally able to connect to the VPN. I am, however, unable to see or ping any PC at my workplace once I'm connected to the VPN. The machine at work is running XP Pro and my home PC is running MCE.

Everything I have read about this problem seems to involve people that are able to ping the PC, but have problems with name resolutions. I have briefly looked into Wins and RAS, but I can't see to find the "idiots" version so I'm a little lost there. I have the VPN server set up to run DHCP over TCP/IP. Well, at least I think I do. :) Under TCP/IP settings for my
incoming connection, I checked the box that says "Assign TCP/IP addresses automatically using DHCP". Is that all I have to do to enable DHCP?

One PC is 192.168.1.x and the other is 192.168.0.x, so I know that's not the problem. I have opened ports 1723, 50 and 500 for both TCP & UDP. I also have both "PPTP Passthrough and IPSec Pass through" enabled.

Is there something I'm missing? Thanks for your help!

Can you ping the work computer by IP? Or this search result may help,

Computer browser over VPN
Computer browsing over VPN involves routers, multiple segments and ... Alternatively, it is possible to browse over VPN by using LMHOSTS files on all VPN ...

No, I was trying by IP address and the ping would just timeout. What about the "route add" command. I see it listed as example 3 in the link you sent me, but I'm unfamiliar with how to use it properly.

I am having the exact same problem. Like Msworld said posting the ip setting of the client will help so I will use mine and it may also help Spyderturbo.

Server IP (WAN)
192.168.1.4
255.255.255.0
192.168.1.254 GATEWAY
192.168.1.5 DNS
192.168.1.5 WINS

SERVER IP (LAN)
192.168.1.5
255.255.255.0
0.0.0.0 GATEWAY
192.168.1.5 DNS
192.168.1.5 WINS

CLIENT IP ASSIGNED BY VPN

192.168.1.12
255.255.255.255
192.168.1.12 GATEWAY
192.168.1.5 DNS
192.168.1.5 WINS

The sub net and the gateway assigned to the vpn look wrong to me but i dont know to change them.

Hope someone can point me in the right direction.

Thanks
