unable to ping exchange 5.5 across a router

hello

we have exchange server running at head office and want to give access to remote users over a radio link for email.The problem is that the server also ruuning the dialup link to the ISP and the LAN addresss unfortunately is not a private IP for the server.We are using motorola routers for remote office connectivity over a radio link.

I configure the remote office MS oulook 2000,but it doesnt work.when i stop the dial up on the server it starts working.

The ip scheme is such :

Server(NT4.0) :Head office
Lan ip: 131.107.2.2
Mask: 255.255.0.0
gateway :131.107.200.1( router ethernet)
mask 255.255.0.0

Also server gets one ip every time it connects to the ISP
thru dial up ppp link.

Remote office client( win2K)
Lan ip: 131.109.41.1
Mask 255.255.0.0
gateway :131.109.200.1
mask 255.255.0.0

Did i understand correct your server and client are connected to different networks?

Did you enable ip-forwardng on your server?

Another reason of Fault: DNS is not properly working. You can check it with the ping command:

Try Ping server name and
Ping ip-address

if the second command works, then check your DNS setup.

yes, my server and client are on different networks and the routers are in between them ( two routers)
I did not enable ip forwarding on the server coz i think you enable it when u have a multihomed server.

lastly i m not running DNS server on the NT4.0 but i can ping the server name and its ip aaddress from the client end only when the server is not connected to the internet..

my server is on 131.107.0.0
and client is on 131.109.0.0

try to trace the route, when your server is connected to the
internet. how far does it come?

wait a moment, does your server change subnets whe dialing in?
