Unable to open your default E-mail folder...
The question is that I am trying to open my own e-mail account and I have administrator right to exchange as well as to the domain but still I get the error message every time I try to open outlook.

Unable to open your default e-mail folders.
You don't have the permission to log on.

Many other people are having he same problem. Could anybody suggest whats wrong here and why will this happen. What are the nessary steps I need to take.

I have no idea why will it happen and why can't I get into outlook...

Check in Exchange Admin as to the permissions for the accounts. Check the indiv mailboxes and the containers.

Usually this is a mapping problem between NT and the mailbox. Check in the mailbox properties of the user and that the correct NT account information is selected.

If the error continues, the only way I have found to resolve it is by deleting the mailbox and re-adding.

The login credentials match the profile? If it ain't broken, play with it till it breaks.

Correct !

Microsofts Explanation !

SYMPTOMS
========

When starting the Microsoft Exchange Client or Microsoft Outlook, the following message may be displayed:

Unable to open your default mail folders. You do not have permission to log on.

[OK]

Outlook will also display the following message:

Would you like to open your default File System folder instead?

[Yes] [No]

Clicking OK in the Exchange Client or OK and No in Outlook will return you to the
desktop. Clicking OK and Yes in Outlook will open empty system mail folders.

CAUSE
=====

The logon credentials of the Exchange Client or Outlook are different from the logon credentials of the user logged into the workstation.

RESOLUTION
==========

Log off of the workstation and log back on with the same user credentials as the Exchange Client or Outlook.

This happened to us once before, and the way that I fixed it was: right click on the properties for Outlook (icon on desktop) click on the properties on the Microsoft Exchange Server , on the General tab, go to the Mailbox field, and take out the name of the user, put in another name, it could be any name. Click on check name, the system is going to ask you for the user name and password, this is needed to gain access to the Mailbox name that you are checking on. When the system puts the name in the Mailbox field, click on Apply, then ok, then ok again, to get out of the outlook properties. Go back in again, to repeat the process but this time put the name of the user you want in, and then check the name, once the name comes up, click apply, then ok then ok. This should fix it. It worked for us.

Thanks Guys you did help me resolved the issue. Appreciate your time and patience.

Thanks Again!

Thanks for the tip on going to the Properties of the Outlook icon. You'd think Microsoft would make it a point to indicate that this is an option instead of just throwing you out of the program when you click on 'No' to the 'Would you like to open your default File System folder instead?' question. Urgh.

Thanks again!

Eric
