I'm using Win 98 and PWS. When I try to open default.htm (or any other htm file) in my existing project I get the
following error:

Unable to open Web project 'Project2'. Server Error: You
cannot open a web at, or create a subweb beneath, the URL
"/Project2", because it is an alias. Use the full URL
instead.

How can I solve this error?
Any help will be welcome.

What is the exact location of that default.htm ?
Is it part of another VID project? Try to copy it
to (a folder of) the XXXXXXX_LOCAL folder and open it as an existing file... br

The default.htm file is located in folder
c:\Project4\Project4_Local
If I open the file manualy with IExplorer in this folder the
file opens with no problem.

Also the file is located in folder
c:\Inetpub\If I open the file manualy with IExplorer in this folder the
file opens with no problem.

Any other ideas what could be wrong?
Thank's in advance.

Project2 is an old VID project? Maybe the PROJECT2_LOCAL folder is gone already, but the version is still there? Is PROJECT2 a (virtual) folder in IIS? When PROJECT2 does not exist (anymore): remove it.
With IE you should open the files in the tree, with VID you work on the files in the project-folder. br

I had a similar problem. In PWS you can assign a virtual directory to be the root of the web. This should not be done as Front Page Server Extensions does not like it (and generates the error that you posted).

Locate the <home> directory in the PWS Personal Web Manager (double click the PWS icon in the system tray, select the Advanced tab). Click Edit Properties. The path should be D:\inetpub\ or similar.

If this actually points to a directory that is also a 'virtual directory', then you get your error. (Content Management)
