Hi. I have a peculiar problem with Outlook 98. When an end user receives a forwarded message with (for example) a word or excel attachment, they are unable to open it. They get a mesage that says, "The form required to view this message cannot be displayed. Contact your administrator". This started happening when the company's mail server crashed & was brought back up with a new information store. The server is a Compaq Proliant 3000 running NT 4, Exchange Server 5.5 with sp3. No custom forms are being used & I checked settings on both the client & server side...all seems normal. I have a user that works with Outlook 2000 who did experience the problem, but is fine now. He tells me that he did not make any configuration changes to his pc...like the problem cleared itself. Unfortunately, Outlook 98 is the corporate standard here. Users do not have problems with sent mails with attachments or replies with attachments, just forwards with attachments. I do have a work around...I have the user save the attachment to their local HD & it opens successfully...but it's not a permanent fix. Can anyone tell me what's going on & if there is a fix?

I am having the same problem. I did apply an office 97 fix to the machine it is happening to and wondering if that overwrote a dll or something like that

its sounds like file permissions on your workstation - sre you using NTFS ???

If all else fails, many of those types of emails can be viewed using a Yahoo account.

there is options in the Tools menu that checks the mails to be sent in HTML format or plain text in outlook, if the users are sending in Rich Text, you might not be able to view it in 98, but 2000 will allow it.

Also, go to the server and Exchange Server admin. Go to Connections, and Internet Mail serivce....in here go to the Internet Mail Tab, and check both boxes with Plain Text and HTML in the Attachments(outbound) section. Or if they are already ticked, try unticking them....play around with these and see if this helps.....
