Hi All,

I have three people that are unable to open a particular database (most likely an older version) and receive the message "Microsoft database engine could not find the object "msysdb." Make sure the object exists and that you spell its name and path name correctly."

Any ideas on how to resolve?

Thanks so much!
Sheryl

If this is a FrontEnd/BackEnd operation, it's possible that the links between the FrontEnd and BackEnd need to be re-established.

Hi Tom,

Thanks for the response. Now for a basic question - how would I go about re-establishing the FrontEnd and BackEnd?

Thanks!

Look in Tools>Database Utilities>Linked Table Manager, and follow the process to refresh the links.

Hi again Tom,

Since they are unable to open the database, it seems the Linked Table Manager option is greyed out.

Any chance you have any other suggestions?

Thanks again for your help,
Sheryl

There must be something in the Starup that is causing them not to be able to open the database at all.

Have them try holding down the Shift key as they try to open the database. That will bypass anything in the Startup.

If that doesn't work, it might be that something has become corrupted. You could try...
1. Rename the database to (old)
2. Create a new blank database under the original name, without the (old). Import all the Objects from the old database into the blank new one.

Hi Tom,

I'm still waiting on my client to see if this worked. Just wanted to say thanks for your help. Hopefully I won't be back!

I have walked into this same problem today. Did anything work for you? I have tried what was suggested and nothing has worked for me. I can't open or repair the database. I've tried creating a blank and importing, linking, and establishing an ODBC connection with no luck. I ran the JetComp.exe supplied by MS and had no luck. Our backup from last night has the corruption and our last good one is 5 days old. I'm desperate!

I have not heard back from my client as to whether or not the above suggestions (from THWatson) worked. I have to assume they did since I did not get questioned.

Are you still having the same issue?
