I get the following message when I attempt to install RealOne Player v2 on Win2k SP3:
"Setup Error: Setup decompression failed, possible download error. Please download this file again or contact your system administrator."

This is my home system. I am logged on as the admin (my account belongs to Administrators and Power Users). I have downloaded the file three times and I get the same error. Does anyone have any idea what could be causing this error? I am running IE 6 SP1

I could not find a more appropriate forum for this issue. Please excuse me if this is not the proper place. Can someone let me know the proper forum if this is not?

Did you download the file from real.com, or elsewhere?
Can you post a link to the exact file so we can see if it's the file itself or your computer? pbxman

The file was named RealOnePlayerV2GOLD.exe and it was downloaded from Real.com. Here is the link I started with:
When you click the link "Download the Free RealOne Player Only" you are taken to a page where the download starts automatically. However, since I have a dial-up connection, the download takes too long so I just click on "Restart Download". I have tried this method on a WinNT 4.0 system and program installed with no problem. I have the tried the regular method where the download starts automatically on a Win2K system and the file installed with no problem.

I hope this information helps.

Thanks for your response.

Check that you have a C:\temp directory and that it's not read-only or anything. I don't think it's SP3, but rather a transmission error is corrupting the file or something to that effect. Can you download the file from another PC and maybe burn it to CD, then retry?
Also, your user account should only be a member of one group, not both. pbxman

The C:\temp directory is not ready-only. I placed my user in just the Administrators group and removed the user from the Power User group. I downloaded the file from another computer using a DSL connection and burned the file onto a CD-R. I got the same error message. I sent an email to Real Networks about this last week, but they have not gotten back to me as of yet.

RealOne Support responded to me and said that I disable or uninstall your Norton's Anti-Virus software and then download and install the player. I will try this and then post back here with my results.

Thanks. ^_^
Smile, it's good for you...

The suggestion for Real did not work. I was not able to install RealOne or the latest version Real 10 beta. I really would love to install this program.
