The system has network printers installed, and you can add new ones without any issue. I tried to install a local printer. It goes through the whole process, and on the very last screen when you click on "finish" to complete, it will error out with "Unable to install printer. The print processor does not exist." The spooler service is running.

ANy ideas?

TIA

I got that error message trying to install a TCP/IP printer to a PC on a domain. By this time, the system had created the TCP/IP port on the PC, but would not install the printer. I installed the printer to LPT1, then went to the properties of that installed printer and changed it to the TCP/IP port. I stumbled on this after getting frustrated trying to find a solution on Microsoft's website.

I got the same message with a new profile on an XP client. I used the Transfer Wizard to move a user onto the machine. The printers from the existing user were not visible, so I attempted to recreate the printer by recreating the IP port and got this message.
NOVMT's advice worked for one printer. I had to use LPT2 on the second printer, and then I discovered I did not get the error if I choose to re-install the print drivers. Worked for two more printers, always having to reassign the port.
