Unable to forward or archive message???

I had a message come through from a "friend" at another company. I could not FORWARD or MOVE the message to my personal folder. The message went away in a few days and now I cannot prove that I got it if someone wanted to view it. How can someone do this and what can I do to prevent this from happening again? Could I have modified the message somehow? Did it certain attributes marked on it?

Actually they are using 2003? Are the some settings I should be aware of on 2003?
