i have lotus notes 4.6.1a running windows nt 4.0 service pack 6 plus 6a with group shield enabled for viruses.

from last two-three years it was running perfectly.

suddenely it gave me server not responding , goes to extended search and gives unable to find path to the server.

it comes frequently at the client as well as server itself.
it works perfectly but suddenly gives error . after few minutes again it works.???????

it comes on the server itself when we are working on client for administration.

we took nos of ssteps for the resolving the same.
1. reinastall the whole server including windows nt , service pack 5 , group shield . and copied only names.nsf and all mail files , neccessary id .

2. network auditing , cable auditing for any chocking , no broblem found , working perfectly.

3. antivirus softwares norton 2001, macfee , inocualtor no virus found.

4 hardware also , changed three systems

still facing problem.

please help me .

regards

Hi Sandy,

The first thing that I would ensure is that Domino is running as a service on the NT server and that the server is logged onto the network (not just locally).
Also I would not install any service pack beyond 5.
There are also further Y2k hotfixes that you can apply on top of SP5, which you can get from MS.
Do you get connection problems if you log onto a workstation as an administrator?
Finally, what does the Notes Log on the server say?..does it give you any clues?

hope I've helped a little !?

From the workstation, try to ping the server name. Has your DNS entry changed? It works.

I've done more R5 deployments than I care to think about.

The first thing I was wondering reading your post was where is your server and how is it trying to connect to the other server is this via your own internal network or over the internet?

My DSL/ISP combo often times goes down then comes right back up again with no warning or reason and I get the same behavior you do. I just let it go it comes back.
