Hi,

I have a user here that is trying to access someone elses mailbox, she has full permissions to the persons mailbox. However when she tries to expand the mailbox she gets the following error message "Unable to expand the folder. The set of folders could not be opened. The operation failed"

The user can expand other mail boxes fine, also when I access her mailbox from my machine and add the otger users mailbox I seem to be able to get access just fine!?

Has anyone come across this problem before. any help would be most appriciated!

Nope. I deleted the user local profile and this seemed to work.

Deleting the users outlook profile did nothing though?!

hi, i'm having the same problem. even though i've set permissons for this mailbox i still get unable to expand folders message. the folder is visible and have even given permissions to the whole mailbox. Did you mention that you have actually deleted local profile to overcome this problem??

Yeah I deleted the user local profile from the machine. This seemed to work.

Make sure the permissions are set to show folder at the top mailbox level. Set the permissions under this as required.

I have deleted local profile - c:\windows\profiles and also removed profile from outlook and added it again, and still can't see other persons folder?

In Exchange admin in the users account select the permissions tab (making sure it is made visible first) and add the user who requires access, set the permission level to user. Does the folder expand then?

there isn't a permissions tab within exchange admin for the users accounts. i have set permissions however through outlook. i have also set send on behalf of permissions within exchange admin. this must be a permissions thing, but i don't know how to work it out.

Setting permissions in outlook, on the folders, is different from setting permissions on the Exchange Admin permissions tab (BTW, if you can't see this it's because you haven't enabled the option in Admin Tools Options).

Setting the Exchaneg Admin permissions gives the additional user full rights over the entiore mailbox, including Send As, which may not be what you want. Setting individual permissions over individual folders within the mailbox via the Outlook client (such as your requirement, the Sent Items folder) is a much finer level of access control.
