Unable to download files from internet. If tried to do so the system restarts.

How are you connected to the Internet (i.e. cable/DSL modem through net card or USB port, or dial-up modem?)?

How recently is it since this has started? Could you download files before?

Check event viewer to find out why, click Start - Control Panel - Admin tools - Event Viewer. You'll want to check Application, System, and Internet Explorer. You didnt happen to upgrade to IE7 recently did you? If so uninstall it and try IE6.

I agree with w1nn3r - may i add something that may be of help here, if your computer is restarting it 'usually' means a fatal error has occurred on your system...

You can set your system so that instead of restarting it 'Blue screens'... this screen usually contains white text with information about the error, the most important information on this screen is the Condition which led to the computer crashing which is usually mentioned on the third and fourth lines with a filename. Also more important is the STOP code which is generated along the bottom with some parameters under the "TECHNICAL INFORMATION" section, it look like this: Stop 0x0000000A (0x00000060, 0x0000001c, 0x00000001, 0x8042a04a)
this pinpoints the problem but in computer language.
the way to disable the auto restart is as follows:

Control panel > System > Advanced > Startup & Recovery settings > Uncheck the 'Automatically Restart' box under system failure pane.

The reason why i prefer this method is because i have seen some systems in the past which will crash/restart without writing an event log, this makes it particularly difficult to debug the problemo!

Saying that however, the method mentioned in the post before this is generally sufficient to give you the information you need to track down the problem. Good luck!

If you test in "Safe Mode with Networking" do the downloads succeed?
