I'm encoutering problems trying to access a MS SQL database form the Workstations (MS SQL Server 2005 Express)or creating a new DSN for that matter. The Server is HP PROLIANT DL380 G5 running WIN2K3 Small Business Server (SP2).

The following error is returned at all workstations running WINXP_PRO (SP2):

Connection Failed:
SQLState: '01000'
SQL server Error=11004
[Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][TCP/IP Sockets] ConnectionOpen. (C0nnect()).
Connection Failed:
SQLState: '08001'
SQL Server Error: 6
[Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][TCP/IP Sockets]Specified SQL Server not found.

I am able to browse the Server directories from the workstations, though.

Can anybody help me to resolve this issue?

Rgds,

Are you using the Server name or IP address when you create your connection.

Simi

I'm using the Server name as in: ServerName\SQLEXPRESS. And then went on to the next screen and select "With SQL Server authentication using a login ID and Password entered by the User".

Just when I click on "Next" button, it returns this message of doom.

Please help.

Hi there

Sounds like there is an issue with network names or ports.
Have you tried to set the new DSN using an IP address?,
Is there a firewall issue, if SQL Server Express running on say XP machine is the firewall open? Allow port 1433 TCP
