Unable to connect to Samba server

Hi all!

I have installed CentOS 5.2 and the latest version of Samba. I have successfully configured Samba and Kerberos (I hope!) and joined it successfully to our W2K3 Active Directory domain. I could see a list of all our shares of our Active Directory (DC) server.
Now here is my problem. When I try to browse this server via a Windows XP Pro client I keep getting the following error message:

ServerA is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource. The network path was not found.

Could someone shed some further light on this and guide me as to how to solve this problem?

Many thanks!
Pierre

Did you install both the Samba client and the Samba server. The samba client will allow the linux box to see the windows systems, but not the other way around. The Samba server must be installed, configured & running for windows clients to see it. What is your server configuration - the smb.conf file?

Make sure you have the following statements in [blue]/etc/samba/smb.conf[/blue]:
Code:
security = domain
password server = *
And don't forget.
The Documentation said:
a valid UNIX user must still exist as well as the account on the Domain Controller to allow Samba to have a valid UNIX account to map file access to.

I think winbind will fill the gap but I've never used it. No windows/AD domains in my neck of the woods, only eDir trees.

Have Fun! [pipe]

Thanks guys for your posts. Here are my answers to some of your questions.

I have both the samba server and client installed.

I have in the smb.conf file the following:

security = ads
Password server = IP address of our W2K3 AD DC

And the user account that exists on the Samba server exists also on the W2K3 DC.

Thanks
Pierre
