I'm having trouble attempting to connect to the localhosts of other machines on my company network and unfortunately, I know very little about networking.

I was able to connect to these machines a month or two ago but I now seem to have lost the ability to do so. When I try opening a web page in IE contained within another machines localhost, I'm unable to connect.

The only change in the network that I'm aware of was the installation of Windows Service Pack 2. Could this have caused the problem?

Any idea what I'm doing wrong?

Thanks in advance.

I'm assuming that the web server is a Windows XP Pro machine? Yes Windows Service Pack 2 could have effected it. By default SP2 turns on the built in firewall. You'll need to disable it or reconfigure it so allow the traffic.

Also make sure that you are getting an IP address. From a dos prompt type ipconfig /all and make sure that the IP, subnet, gateway, dns and wins settings are all correct.
