Unable to connect to internet after installing cisco VPN client

Hello All,

I am facing this problem for past 2 days now, already in touch with netork guys in my company but they are unable to provide any solution.

Problem:

1. I am using Windows XP SP2, which was able to access internet easily.

2. 2 days ago i installed Cisco VPN client provided by our customer so i can establish VPN connection with our customer and access his network.

3. after installing the Cisco Client(4.0.5 D) i tried connecting to the VPN but couldnot and it gave me REASON Code 414. Unable to establish TCP connection.

4. so i closed the client ( exited it completely) and tried accessing internet for support/help but was unable to do so.

5. upon checking the ipconfig i found that my system is taking the IP address and is able to ping the gateway. but still i was unable to connect to internet. ( all other users in my office are able to connect to internet except me.

6. so i uninstalled the client but still i was unable to connect to the internet.

what could be the possible problem and solutions . please help.

System Restore, or shut off Norton.

hi Burt. i dont have Norton anti-virus installed. i m running Avast antivirus. besides if i do a system restore. wont it delete my entire data on C drive?

1. You need to use at least version 4.6 with XP SP2

2. Did you reboot your machine after you uninstalled the vpn client?

3. Finally try the command "netsh winsock reset" without the quotes from cmd.

i will try to get version 4.6 for the client .

yes i did restarted the machine after installation n uninstall. and will try the netsh winsock reset command tomorrow morning when i m in office.

Hi Burt,

I got my hands on client4.6 and was able to connect to the vpn, but now after installing it i am unable to conenct to internet. though i am able to telent to microsoft at port 80 from command promt.

and when i uninstall the client i am able to connect to the internet.

also i tried the netsh winsock reset there was no effect, then i again tried netsh int ip reset c:\resetlog.txt and restarted the system. i was able to connect to internet but not to vpn.

please help!!! i have already checked the settings for split tunneling.
