Hello all,

My first question so be gentle. My friend is unable to connect to any wireless networks. She has a Gateway desktop running Windows XP SP2. Her wireless network adapter is a Netgear 54 Mbps Wireless USB 2.0 adapter. She recently purchased a linksys G USB wireless adapter and experienced similar results. She can detect the unsecured wireless network, but when she connects to it, it will never connect and simply states that Windows will continue to try to connect. I brought over my laptop thinking that perhaps the router was not handing out ip addresses anymore but I was able to connect to it just fine and am on it currently. I have attempted to repair the wireless connection to no avail, have run winsockfix.exe, have added the reg key under HKEY_local_machine\system\CurrentControlSet\Services\TCPIP\parameters
DisableDHCPMediaSense
Datatype: Reg_DWORD with a value of 1

Per some other forums advice. I have since removed the reg key. I have stopped and started the wireless zero config service as well with several reboots to no avail. Any help at all would be appreciated.

If the PC has a NIC card (For hard Cable) Disable the NIC reboot

I have tried that and It did not work. My Friend was able to move the router and modem downstairs and was able to hard wire it. In discussing this with another friend, the issue lies more in the USB connection than the OS. Since this is no longer an issue, I will close the thread.
