I have a program on an NT 4(with SQL Server 7 installed) server that uses SQLDMO to connect to an SQL 8 database(Mixed Mode) on another server(Windows 2000). The problem is that the NT server cannot connect to the SQL server.
The sqldmo object is created it is the "sqldmo.connect statement that is the problem. The program cannot connect to the server. Here is what I have done so far.

Went to command prompt on the NT server and entered
C:\>osql -S IHQAVOTUS -U timesync
Password:
[Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][Named Pipes]SQL Server does not exist or
access denied.
[Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][Named Pipes]ConnectionOpen (Connect())

Tried connecting via ODBC, no luck same basic error message as osql.

Tried telneting to SQL Server8 box on port 1433 and it works.

Tried connecting from another PC and the login and password works.

MDAC version on NT server is 2.6RTM

Any thoughts greatly appreciated

Chris

Try changing the odbc connection type from Named Pipes to TCP/IP

Change ODBC type doesn't make a difference. It also happens with the SQLDMO.Connect statement
