I have a CS1K, SF rel 4.5 with a PRI on a DS1 circuit. My customer recently discovered that he cannot make calls to the 844 area code and I'm not sure why. As soon as the number is dialed we get a 'fast busy'. The NPA entry for 844 is exactly like all of the other area code entries. D Chan messaging shows the correct number is being presented to the carrier. The telco was out with a t-bird and claims they were able to dial the number successfully from their NIU (I wasn't there to see it). Is there anything else that I should be checking in the CS1K?

Is the NPA programmed as 1844? At what point do you get the fast busy 1 844 123 4567

1-844 is a new Toll Free number. There are not many numbers assigned yet. If you get Fast Busy right after 9,1844 then it is not programmed in the PBX.

Program it like 1-800

Remember "1844" not "844"

If you switch lets you get past the 844 part you will need to contact your LD vendor and have them adjust their translations to allow all of your outgoing trunks/loops to hit that exchange too. Every once in awhile we end up with an area code that is unreachable and I have had to beat them over the head to get it fixed. Make sure to call them with a recent call example: #from - #to - time so they can track it

I didn't know 844 was a toll free number. I reassigned the NPA to the same RLI as the other toll free numbers are using which is a 2nd PRI in the PBX. Now when we dial the number we get a network recording that says the number we have dialed is not in service and D Chan messaging returns a cause #1 - Unassigned number. I ran out of time last night to investigate further but this looks like a network issue to me.

So I scheduled a vendor meet and it turns out the carrier also had some programming issues. Once they were resolved we were good to go on the 844 numbers. Thanks everyone for your help.
