Hello all.

I'm having a problem with a 2600, it has 16 megs on onboard flash memory, which currently has a 13 meg ios image on it.

We needed to upgrade the IOS image, new one currently aroung 18 megs, and previous flash card(16 megs) wasnt sufficient.

However, router will not boot(at all - no display whatsoever) with the new flash card!
Have tried two different flash cards so that isnt the issue.

Current config:
sh run | i boot
boot system flash:
boot system flash:c600-is-mz.122-8.T10.bin

The c2600-is-mz.122-8.T10.bin image is the one thats currently loaded in onboard flash memory.

Tried various things.
Removed boot system flash: entry, switched off router, inserted flash card, rebooted, does not boot at all.
2) Removed boot system flash:c600-is-mz.122-8.T10.bin, so that just had boot system flash:, switched off, inserted flash, rebooted, still does not boot.

Am perplexed as to what is goin on here.
I had thought that removing boot system flash: command with new flash card in it would still boot the router using the onboard flash memory, at which point I could download the new ios via tftp...

Please advise..
Many thanks.

Typo in the above
should read:
boot system flash:c2600-is-mz.122-8.T10.bin

(didnt copy n paste). :)
If someone has encountered this kind of problem before and is able to assist would be very much appreciated.

I'm a little confused is this booting on the old IOS or not ? If you can get it to boot off the existing ios boot it up then upload the new ios to the flash card then you would have to modify the boot statement to boot from slot0: if that is where the image is located . Also check to see what the config register is set at . Should be 0x102 .

Another thought , make sure you are plugged into the console port and not the aux port , if the router is not booting up all the way you won't see it in the aux but will in the console port . No matter what unless you have a total failure you should see something in the console port as you power up , post with results .

Thanks for the reply.
Am going to have to get a replacement chassis and build it.
There is no display at all(i.e pretty much dead) when new flash is inserted, so cannot boot into rommon and issue a tftpdnld...

Cheers.
