I have a scheduled job that runs every night, as of two nights ago for no apparent reason I started receiving the following error message:
E8563 Failed to send data to the Database agen (EC=10054)

It is crucial that I get a good backup today, does anyone have any suggestions. Can't find any thing on ca.support.com or google. Please help!!!!!!!

Thanks in advance,

So it Shall be Written!
So it Shall be Done!!

speshalyst:

i am having the same problem along with a few others like:
E8562 Failed to receive data from the database agent EC=10054 and E8552 Failed to receive data from the exchange agent EC=1; and E8563 Failed to send data to the database agent EC=10053

What exactly do you mean by recycle the backup agent RPC server service? Stop and restart the service? I have tried that many times but doesnt solve.

Thanks.

I tried to stop and start the services for Arcserve and in addition I rebooted the server with no sucess. Any other suggestions?

recently had the same problem and I have found a fix for it. I think it began to happen to me after I installed the latest service pack for arcserve.

You would have to make this change in the registry of the exchange server so make sure you do a backup of the registry first.

Go to the following key: -
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ComputerAssociates\ARCserveIT\DSAgent\CurrentVersion\agent\dbaexch

In that key you will find UseTCP. Change the 1 to a 0. ("UseTCP"=dword:00000001 to "UseTCP"=dword:00000000)

This will change TCP/IP to named pipes in the exchange agent configuration. I am not sure if it will work from the configuration. Maybe it might be a good idea to do the change in the configuration before you start to change settings in your registry.

Anyway, good luck with it all and remember to back up the registry first before changing any settings

I think i'm in big trouble i have all problem above, and
I have a problem to backup my exchange 2000 whit arcserve 2000, when I click on the exchange server, it tell me There are no item to display and when I click on the brick level I see the individual mailbox. Some one can tell me why and how I can fix my problem.? I also have this error message e8562 e8600.

someone can help me,

with regards to not being able to see anything listsed under the exchange server when trying to backup (even though you can see the brick level details), a fix that worked for me was to do the following;
un-install the exchange agent, get service pack 3 for Arcserve 2000, and using winzip, extract the SP3.exe file. Once extracted you'll see the install files for the Exchange Agent, use these to re-install the agent, and then re-apply SP4 if you want to. I think this fix has been listed in the forums before, so I can't take any credit for this!!

I had similar problems to this awhile ago. I found that if I used Named Pipes its ok...

Make sure your COMPUTER BROWSER service is running on the EXCHANGE SERVER! The Arcserve Exchange Backup agent is dependant on it.

Keep in mind that errors such as 10054, 10053 and 10060 can indicate a problem in your network. Any glitches or hiccups will cause the backups to fail. The Exchange agent cannot recover from these errors.

Most of the time upgrading the NIC drivers to the newest levels can clear up network errors.

If you have anti-virus on either machine, try running a backup with it turned off. AV can interfere with everything, including network communications.
