We are running SAP R/3 4.6C and currently backup to the jukebox via UNIX but want to use the SAP brbackup facility instead.

We have managed to amend the init<SID.sap file to successfully initialise a tape via sapdba, but when it unmounts the tape it does so with an IO error message.

When attempting to use this initialised tape for a backup, the tape is ejected with the error message "Tape label error:not enough space"

We have experimented with block size configurations but have not yet hit on the right answer.

Has anybody any experience or advice in this field?

We are using DLT8000.

What version of Networker are you using. And what version of the SAP Module?

More questions... What database and what version? and what OS and Version?

If you are using backint which is the SAP application module, then you don't initialize tapes from sapdba. You need to set up the init<SID>.utl file with parameter backup_dev_type = util_file. You will also need to set up the init<SID>.utl file to use a specific pool and group. You then label tapes through Networker just as you would with UNIX backups.
Hope this helps,
Kent

Thanks for your help guys.

We are using version 6.0.1 of Networker on
Solaris/Oracle(32) 8.1.6.0.0. We have not installed a SAP module (£££), wishing to use brbackup directly.

"Apparently" this shuld be possible, and with the introduction of backup_dev_types pipe_box & tape_box it can be carried out without using backint(?)

We have the latest version of brbackup etc.

Any ideas?

I wasn't aware that there was any way to do it without the module. Good luck.
