For years I have played at Microsoft's Gaming Zone and have never encountered any problems. Then all of a sudden the other day I went there and though the page loads I can't access any rooms and I noticed at the bottom it notes an error on the page.

Since I am addicted to playing at this site,I tried everything I could think of (including uninstalling and reinstalling "The Zone") to correct this problem. Finally, just out of curiosity and wondering if it might be due to a security issue, I added an "s" in my address window: and it worked! The page reloaded and all was well. So now I assume the problem has to do with my Norton virsus program.

I have searched Norton for information on this but I am coming up empty. Is there any way that any one knows of to fix this problem permanently? Not that it is a big deal but it would just be nice to enter the site without editing each time.

Thanks for any help

*note: I also have Zone Alarm and AdSubtract
I use explorer 6

Can't you just access this site via a shortcut or favorite that you've edited to contain the "https"?

I thought the same thing but.... no. To log in you are taken to a different page and after the log in you are automatically transfered back to the area you started only this time the "s" is not part of the address.

Also, with the short-cut I get a warning that the site I am about to enter has a problem with their security certificate. It shows the name on the certificate is invalid or does not match the name of the site. Upon viewing the certificate I can find nothing that doesn't match up and it's valid until the end of Sept.

Just to note: yes I have added this site to my trusted zones but something somewhere does not believe me ...

it's a mystery to me :) thanks for your help

Hmm. I had never accessed that site before, and when I used your URL, it brought up the security cert warning window you described. At the bottom of the window was an option to "install certificate" which I clicked on. It took me through a install cert wizard. When I completed it, and tried the URL again, it came up fine for me. (BTW I'm running W2K, and IE 5.5). I created a shortcut for it as well, which also works using that address.
Perhaps you have a corrupt cert. Try removing it, going to the site, and adding it back in the way I did.

Gentlemen
I hate to say this but this is terribly wrong. When you install that certificate, you are indeed telling your browser to trust something that it warned you not to trust. In most of the cases it is just a matter of not matching in the names or certificates out of date, but it could also mean someone trying to fake some other identity... so, I loged to the site aswell, and it seems that the certificate is failing because it actually changed the name to zone.msn.com

So I reckon that you'd better change your links to the new name rather than making other changes. In the end one day they could decide to use the name for something else.

Cheers!
Marcos.
