Hello,

We are attempting to move our DB database to new server hardware. We have two databases, one 400MB and the other 9GB, in size. We are attempting to use the Create from Backup option from the Control Center to bring the data into the new server. The Create from Backup operation is successful with the small database, but will not create the large database, despite the fact that both the Create messages and the Journal indicate that the operation completed successfully. The Create runs for one or two seconds and indicates success. No database object is created in the Control Center, and no directory database structures were created on the target drive. We have tried multiple backup files. We have tried with Fixpaks, 8,9 and 16.

During the Create, the options are left at default, roll-forward pending is deselected and the backup image is manually selected with the correct Db backup directory naming conventions.

We are running UDB 5.2, Fixpak 16 on NT 4.0 SP5. The target drive has 25 GB free space. The following is a copy of the DB2DIAG.LOG entry when the Create from Backup operation is attempted:

Can anyone advise has to how to make the Create from Backup work for the 9GB database? DB2 is supposed to be an Enterprise Class database and should be able to easily handle databases of this size. I would greatly appreciate any advice or help. Please feel free to contact myself using the info below.

Thanks,

Hello,

9GB is not so big. Maybe you might want to change some parameters of the instance that would allow DB2 to handle the restore:
db2 update dbm using restbufsz 4096: it will allocate 16Mo for the restore buffers instead of the usual 4Mo.

Moreover rather than using the graphical interface, using the restore command line will allow you to control what is running. Use more than 2 buffers.

I hope this will help.

Regards.
