UCM backup

I have CS1000E Rls 7.5 in a MG1010 with a CPMGS co-res. In UCM under software deployment there is the option for backups. It gives the choice to back up to the Deployment server or an SFTP server. I have done a backup to the deployment server and it now shows a tar.gz file. I do not have an sftp server but I want to retrieve the file onto my client machine. I have tried to use Filezilla client but for some reason I can't find the file on the CS1k. I have found a folder that says backups but it is empty. Does anyone out there have a method of retrieving these files to a client machine?
 
In 6.0, they were on the deployment server in the following folder:
/var/opt/nortel/deployment/deployed/<hostname>/backup

I believe it is the same for R7.5. You need to log into SFTP with the "admin2" account, not an admin account.

Thanks for the reply Nortel4Matt. I tried what you said but there is no folder deployment after Nortel. If I continue after nortel I can get to jbossquantum open that and there is a folder called element which opens to deployed then backup but there is nothing there. This is a linux base setup so there is no vxworks CS1K just a CS1K linux base.When I login with the admin2 account there is no /var but there is a nortel folder which denies me access. When I login with admin there is /var/opt/notel/jbossQuantum/conf/elementRegistry/element/backup. This file is empty. Going /var/opt/notel/jboss-Quantum/conf/elementRegistry/element/deployed/ there are files in there but not the backup files.I am baffled. When I log into UCM and go to deployment server and backup it shows the file as a .tar.gz file. I can't seem to get to it using the Filezilla client SFTP.I have tried using both the elan and the tlan but it doesn't seem to make a difference.
 
On a 6.0 system, it's the "nortel" account, but in 7.5 that account is the "admin2" account. When I look in the Linuxbase NTP, it references /var/opt/avaya/deployment/deployed/<hostname>/ ...

I don't have my 7.5 system up; you might try that, I'm not sure if it's an Avaya find/replace of "nortel" in the NTP or not hehe. They were notorious for that for a while! ;)

Well I am closer. I logged into the command line with the admin2 account and followed the path /var/opt/nortel/deployment/deployed/<hostname>/backup
which you pointed to and I can now see the file there. I just don't know how to copy it from there to my local machine. Its strange it doesn't show it on the Filezilla sftp client. I tried WinScp with same result. Would you know the commands to copy this file?? Again thanks for your feedback!
 
I've never had any problems w/ Filezilla SFTP; make sure you log in with the admin2 account in Filezilla (if you see it that way in SSH command line, you should see it that way in the SFTP client). I'm not a fan of WinSCP, but that's just personal preference.

I pull mine down w/o issue any time I run a backup, which is usually after any major UCM changes.

What do you see in FileZilla?

So what is it you think this backup is giving you? My guess is really nothing more than IP addresses, maybe FQDN, but I could be wrong. Not sure it's worth all your effort. I seriously doubt it's backing up much.
 
In Filezilla I can get to /var/opt/nortel/ but after there is no /deployment/deployed. It goes to /var/opt/nortel/jboss-Quantum/conf/element registry/element/backup or deployed with nothing in backup and shows deployed elements under deployed.
 
That's using an admin-level login, not an admin2 (or in 6.0 case "nortel") login. Check the credentials that FileZilla is using. I get the same thing if I log in with "admin" instead of "nortel" on a 6.0 switch. That's normal.

I have never tried nortel login since I don't know the password for it.

You could be right but according to the doc it restores the application data??
 
For 7.5 it is your "admin2" Linuxbase account. There is no "nortel" account. In FileZilla make sure you're using the "admin2" username and password that you use when you connect via SSH. You said earlier, on SSH CLI, you can see that directory, correct?

When I use the admin2 account in Filezilla it does not show any directories (empty). Using the admin2 account from command line and then cd /var/opt/nortel/deployment/deployed/<hostname>/backup
I can see the file.
 
I've seen that on CS1K VxWorks server before, but not on Linuxbase server. Try typing in /var/opt/nortel/deployment/deployed/<hostname>/backup
in the remote file directory path once you connect. Or at least part of it, like /var/opt/nortel and see if you can browse from there. It works fine on a 7.5 lab switch.

the backup from what I understand i sused if you have to rebuild the server it has the ip, fqdn and some basic info and that is it
