UCA and latest Android client - GPS problem

We're running MCD 4.2SP2 with a standalone UCA server 4.1.22. I've downloaded and installed the UCA app for Android (4.1.15.14800 - version code 72) on a Droid Bionic. For starters, it's awesome and a huge improvement over the BB app. However, the phone is constantly saying that "UCA connection from the server is down", but I can change settings and statuses manually, etc. and changes reflect on my UCA PC client no problem.

The GPS function does not work however, although it is enabled and I do have a location set with radius and status change, etc. Droid is running on 2.3.4 and 4GLTE/3G service.

Is anyone else having this issue?

Ran the Android client on the Samsung Galaxy S and am now running it on the Samsung galaxy S II. Get the same messages about connection to server down. Think it may be due to the phone trying to contact the server and for some reason the message is missed. Might be due to some issue connected to the phone going into sleep mode. Otherwise app works fine.

GPS works on my blackberry ( corporate phone ) but haven't checked if it works on the Galaxy yet.

Also running the app on an iPad and itouch.

I too was running UCA Mobile on a BB Storm before and it ran just fine. The Android app is much nicer, but it needs to work better. I presume that a constant network connection would further deplete battery resources, which are already severely strained on my Bionic (need extended battery )

I just turned off the network notification, but GPS still doesn't work.

I get the same message re the UCS connection being out. My assumption is there might be a momentary loss of connection when moving through cells ( just a guess ). Otherise it could be a bug or something. Anyways as you say it works regardless.

No suggestions for your GPS problem.

I've tested the Android App. It drained my battery in about 3 hours. The biggest culprit is the GPS. So, don't be disappointed if you don't get the GPS working. The point of the GPS, I believe, is to change your status based on your location. So, if you are not in the office, your status says, "Out of the office." This is not worth killing the battery.

Also, mine also had the red x saying no connection.

The worst part of the client was that you could not exit it, so the only way was to uninstall.

And finally, since I rooted my EVO 4G, it won't launch.

The mobile web app is probably the way to go for simple status changes.

I used the app on a Blackberry for a long time, worked great. GPS only gets polled at intervals, not always on, so shouldn't be that much of a drainer, especially if you have the right apps to maintain battery power.

The best thing re battery life is check for setting in any app regarding how often polling occurs. Set it to the longest interval possible to protect battery life. Had a voice app on my blackberry that draing the battery in half a day. Found it was polling the GPS every second. Not sure why it needed to do that.

The one issue I had with the GPS on my blackberry was that I had it set to change to a particular location ( i.e mobile ) on loss of GPS. This resulted in my location changing any time GPS syching was lost. Happened a number of times when I was sitting in my office. Needless to say I changed the setting to keep the current setting on loss of signal.

Going to a new BB with OS 7. Will see if there is any improvement to the app. Someone told me there was one feature that didn't work in OS 7. Can't remember what it was.
