We have a UC card that gives us a VM Pro lic. We want to do some DB integration (with Advanced Edition), for that i need windows version of VM Pro. Is it just a case of me logging in to the UC web manager and disabling VM Pro (that runs on Linux there), and installing on Windows and connecting my VM Pro as normal?

Nope, that should not work.
Remove the card and get a normal preferred edition license.
Sell the card to a different customer.

Thanks for the reply, not the reply i wanted to hear mind you :) Cheers for the help much appreciated.

I'd like that too. I am not sure why they did not port that feature. Linux has ODBC and a lot of working drivers.

Well if you have the UC module (which costs about 50% of that of a normal VM Pro Preferred edition), it can only make sense to allow you to use an external server should you need.

The UC wouldn't be able to handle processing the database side of it I imagine, they seem to sail quite close to the wind anyway hence the tighter limitations :)

With a UC 110's EXTERNAL IP address entered in the IP Office config instead of 169.254.0.2 you have access to these:

The only time the Voicemail IP Address field in Manager
should be changed is when the installation requires an “external” standalone Voicemail
Pro server to support non-UCM supported features:
• More than 20 Voicemail ports
• VB Scripting
• 3rd party Database Integration
• VPNM
• UMS Web Voicemail
• ContactStore (Windows based ContactStore is supported in version 8.1 Feature Pack 1)

This is what I would do: set the UC as the main VM server and the windoze as the backup VM Pro, then turn of the UC VM service.
VM functionality depends on the server not on IP Office programming.

I would renmove it.
When it breaks then you are screwed big time.
When you put in a new one (just for a license) then it will change the config and you need to reboot the system to change it.
But if you want to do this it is your choice.

??? I don't get the point on your comment tlpeter, if the UC breaks then just leave it in there and the lic will stay valid. Believe me, with a dozen of broken units I am a UC module disaster expert and nowadays I always put a VM Pro on a windows machine as a backup for the UC box. Saved my day several times...
Just don't use the UC VM component at all and rely on the windoze VM Pro. There are thousands customers using the windoze version and most of them are very happy with that.

I only had one that broke down so i am not the expert in this :)
I only don't like screwing around to get it working.

Huh? Shall I translate that into Dutch?[neutral]

Better not :)

Guys i set the vmpro address from 169.254.0.2 to the external vmpro server and it works ok!

Cool, but now you just have a really expensive VM Pro licence. I pesonally find the price difference between the licence and the UC card hard to justify, especially considering it runs a free OS and the BOM for the card :)

Agree. This is for the nightmare client that wanted database integration out of the blie. at least we can het ot working without anymore debate from them as not supported under linux
