I recently re-installed Ubuntu 8.04.1 LTS desktop inside of windows as i have before, but this time something changed.

After installing from disk, the system re-booted, but did not go through all the final steps as before to finalize the installation, bringing me to the Ubuntu desktop.

Instead, after re-booting, the screen stayed black and the word 'Grub' with a prompt appeared. It won't let me go any further until i type the proper command.
I can not uninstall from add/remove in control panel either.

What can i do to remedy this situation?

Boot with the XP CD, enter the RECOVERY CONSOLE, there type FIXMBR and then REBOOT the system...

How to install and use the Recovery Console in Windows XP

ignore the install part and skip down to how to use it...
